Bullying in the Workplace is a Real Problem

Bullying in class and on the playground is a problem, and one that has inspired several parents and concerned citizens to act against it. But how many of us realize that bullying doesn't stop with childhood?

Bullying in the workplace is unfortunately common and easy to identify, according to this article from The Employment Law Post. The author pinpoints the three types of people who allow for bullying to take place; namely, bullies, victims, and bystanders. All three are part of the bullying act, and the latter two are responsible for bringing the negative actions to the attention of a superior.

Of course, dealing with bullying behavior is not always easy or simple. As the article states, "Zero-tolerance policies may not be the best way to deal with bullies...Another employer gets stuck with the bully." The first and perhaps most effective course of action is for the victims and bystanders to stand up to the bully, thus forcing a change in attitude. (Luckily, the CATS Software office is bully-free: I made Asim stop taking my lunch money weeks ago.)
