Productivity: Outlook Attachment Sniffer

As you may or may not know, CATS offers a resume inbox feature. The resume inbox allows you to forward an email with a resume attachment to a special CATS email address that will store the document in your CATS database. The system parses the resume and creates a candidate profile based on the information in the resume. This option is great for emails that come to you after you started using CATS, but what if you just switched to CATS and have tons of resumes in your Outlook inbox? That could be rather cumbersome.

There happens to be a free tool (not provided or developed by CATS Software) available called Outlook Attachment Sniffer, offered by rsbr Software. According to their website the software “allows you to extract specific or all attachments and to export emails from your Outlook in various formats.” You can download and install the Outlook Attachment Sniffer to your 32 bit Outlook and use the tool through the addons tab.

After using this program to export your resumes, you can upload the files into the CATS system by doing the following:

  1. Log into CATS
  2. Click Candidates
  3. Select Mass Import
  4. Use the mass import feature on the right

The resumes will be imported into CATS and parsed to create candidate profiles as well as enable you to do searches within the resume contents.

What do you think? If you give this Outlook add on a try, let us know how it works for you in the comments.
