CATS is now more secure than ever. As part of the Leo release, we introduced multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA allows you to add an additional layer of security to the traditional username and password combination that you use to access CATS.

Why is MFA important?

Your CATS data is valuable and sensitive and thus a potential target for attack. CATS secures your data from intrusion, but your account is still only as secure as your username and password combination. If you use the same credentials on other websites, you increase your risk. In this era of security breaches and password theft, it makes sense to add an extra layer of protection to your account. With MFA, an attacker needs more than just your username and password to access your account.

How does it work?

With MFA enabled, you’ll log in to CATS with your normal username and password and will then be prompted for an additional numerical code generated on your phone. Without this code, you won’t be able to access your account.

Okay, I’m convinced! How do I set this up?

In order to enable MFA, go to the Settings > My Profile area in CATS. Scroll down to the Multi-factor Authentication area and click the Enable link.

First, you’ll need to verify your phone number by typing it into the Phone Number box. Click the Send Verification Code button and we’ll text you a code to type in. Once received, type in the code and click Continue.

Next, you’ll want to download and install Google Authenticator on your phone. It’s a free app that will generate the code used for your second layer of authentication on your account. Once installed, open Google Authenticator on your phone and click the + button to add a new service. You’ll have an option to either add the service manually or scan the bar code. In this case you’ll want to choose scan barcode and scan the barcode you see on your CATS screen. Once added, the Authenticator app will give you a numerical code. Enter this in the Authenticator Code box on your CATS screen and click Continue.

That’s it! Next time you log in, you’ll be asked to enter a numerical code. To get it, open the Authenticator app and type in the number currently displayed. Please note that this number changes every 30 seconds, so it constantly changes to keep your account secure. Optionally choose to have CATS trust your device which will only make you enter an authentication code once every 30 days. If you log in on any other device during that time you’ll still be required to enter a code from your Authenticator app.
